Branko's Bridge
What do you get when you put students of Medicine, Journalism and Law in the same room? The unique sound of Branko’s Bridge, presented by four young musicians from Prague, is a blend of genres from the past century, mostly psychedelic and surf rock, along with the considerably louder sounds of garage and punk rock. Not relying solely on the vague bracket of garage-psychedelic rock, their repertoire also includes many dreamy and modern-sounding songs. Alongside the surprisingly strong vocals, the band is composed of two guitars, a keyboard, synthesizers, a bass guitar and drums through which the incredible energy of their live shows is channeled.
The band’s impact on the Czech capital’s underground scene started to take shape as soon as the band had finished their very first concert - with a crowd of two hundred, a wild atmosphere and three police cars to dismiss the afterparty. Prague has been greatly enriched by this new and authentic element. First demo, Halfway to Nowhere, got the band on Czech radio stations, Radio 1 and Radio Wave, while earning the band the endorsement of a new and wider audience. In Spring 2018, Branko’s Bridge released their debut studio single, For Luck’s Sake, and set out on their first domestic tour. The band appeared on various Czech festivals, including the Republic’s biggest rock music festival Rock for People, in the summer of 2018 and 2019. The band has also supported various foreign bands such as Platinum Boys or Jacuzzi Boys from the US and HAUS from the UK. Branko’s Bridge also appeared in two full-length live video sessions: Radio Wave Studio Sessions and Wombat Sessions. The band played in Prague’s MeetFactory on various occasions, and in Café v Lese the band states that “they feel at home”.
Branko’s debut EP, Should’ve Been Here, was released in April 2019, shortly after the video-single Whatever Comes Goes Away. The songs were mixed and mastered by well-known Czech sound engineer Amak Golden. The EP’s success came right away, Branko’s Bridge was nominated for Czeching, a renowned competition linked with Eurosonic Festival, and played at Prague’s Metronome Festival. Moreover, local media acknowledged and praised the band’s release.
In May 2024, Branko’s Bridge released their debut album Hobby Horse Cowboy. The comeback was accompanied by a nationwide tour, climaxing in sold out Kasárna Karlín in front of 500 fans. Three diverse singles outline the direction of the album: I FEEL FINE, the cosmic Lost Contact and the western-disco ballad A Cowboy That Loved To Dance. During the album’s creation, Jonathan Hucks from the prestigious British collective Miloco finds a unique balance in the mix.
